Road toll now seven
The Labour Day week-end holiday road toll rose to seven yesterday morning when a boy was killed in an accident in Mangere, south Auckland, reports the Press Association. He was Benjamin John Manga, aged 14, of Mangere. He was a passenger in a car which rolled in loose metal in Pukaki Road, Mangere, about 11 a.m. The driver, aged 17. was not hurt, and two other passengers were taken to Middlemore Hospital with minor injuries. Ten people died last year in the holiday period, which ends at 8 a.m. this morning. A Ministry of, Transport spokesman said seven people had died by 12 hours before the end of the holiday period last Labour Day week-end. Two people were killed early on Sunday morning and the other four deaths occurred on Friday night. The record toll for Labour Day week-end was 16 in 1978.
