Nuclear warfare
Sir,—Under the heading “N--war not all bad — scientist" (October 21), Dr Teller is quoted as believing that there would be more survivors than victims of nuclear war, and it would not totally destroy all life on Earth. I agree with those statements but would express the first differently — up to half the world’s human population would be murdered by those fighting a nuclear war. Yes, the survivors could reduce the effects of radioactive fall-out. but its damaging effects would, nevertheless, continue for generations. Thus, although not the ultimate extinction. “N-war is all bad — another scientist.”—Yours, etc., JIM McCAHON. October 22, 1982.
