Obituary Mr Martin Winiata

Mr Martin Rangi Kapiki Winiata. a professional musician and teacher who enlivened many Christchurch Saturday nights in the 1940 s and 19505. died last week in Taupo. Mr Winiata. who was 75. played a number of instruments but his favourite was the saxophone: he was able to play two saxophones at once. Mr Winiata. a band leader and arranger, played a variety of popular music styles including jazz. When rock 'n' roll arrived he switched to the new beat with ease. Among the instruments Mr Winiata taught were guitar, drums, bass, and clarinet. In the mid 19605, Mr Winiata toured the North Island and then settled in Taupo.
