PA Auckland Australian interest in a recent auction forced a NewZealand buyer, Mr Grahame Chote, to pay a record $25,000 for a Goldie painting. The figure is the highest auction price paid for an early New Zealand portrait. “I wasn’t going to let anyone else buy that painting. I have a reputation to keep." said-Mr Chote. who owns a Parnell art gallery. Mr Chote held the previous record for the most expensive early New. Zealand portrait bought by auction, also a Goldie.
