O’Rourke wins javelin
NZPA London The javelin thrower. Michael O'Rourke, of Auckland, was the most successful New Zealander yesterday at the Alcoa track and field meeting in Melbourne. He threw the javelin 85.06 m to win the men's event in the preBrisbane Games meeting. Of the other New Zealanders, the former world 5000 metres record holder. Anne Audain. had a' runaway win in the 1500 metres, in tour minutes 14.47 seconds. The 26-year-old Auckland housewife was pleased with the
run: "Its my first track race since March and after a 40-hour plane trip from Denver. Colorado. on Thursday it’s good." she said. The New Zealand team manager. Graeme McCabe, said: "I'm fairly happy with the team's performances today as almost everyone improved on Adelaide last week-end." He praised Audain and O'Rourke, and the 110 metres hurdler. Kim Soper. Soper, a Wellington travel consultant. split the Australians. Don Wright and Max Binningtpn. .in the 110 metres hurdles.
