Jet boat rally sprint
Ron Harrison beat John Fechney in the final of the jet boat rally sprint series on the Waimakariri. River yesterday after Fechney ran aground in his run. Harrison had no pressure on him for his lap and only had to finish the course to lake the first prize of $5OO. Earlier Warren Meredith, who had the fastest time of the day. and Peter
Munro were eliminated when' thev too ran aground, and Meredith beat Munro in the run-off for third and fourth places. Fifty-four boats entered the event'and that number was.reduced to 16 after an elimination lap.
Final placings were:Harrison 1. Fechney 2. Meredith 3. Munro 4.
