Festival of golf

To stimulate interest in golf and to increase club , membership is the aim of the Canterbury association's “Festival of Golf” promotion which will extend for two weeks this month. The involvement begins with' the “sportarama” programme at Queen Elizabeth II Park stadium on September 18 and 19. The association will have a display stand where information about golf clubs in Canterbury will be available. Other activities include a hole-in-one competition and a sponsored tournament at the

Ascot par-3 course. These events will be organised by the Christchurch City Council's Parks and Recreation Department. Members of the Canterbury representative squad will give an exhibition of stjort iron play in the main stadium on September 19 and from September 20 to 24, Christchurch-based professionals will give free clinics. From September 25 to October 3, there will be eight pro-ams at different clubs in the city where professional demonstration clinics will be held.
