Checks and balances
Sir,—When two politicians as far apart as Sir John Marshall and Mr G. W. R. Palmer agree politically, it is time your correspondents stopped worrying about beauty com tests, barking dogs, stupid paintings and paid attention. Every thinking person who loves this country knows we
are in serious trouble politically, legally, economically, financially, socially, and spiritually. Equally, the same thinker, if he can step aside from personal political loyalties knows the cause. Our democratic system is gone — completely destroyed over the last 15-20 years, while we concerned ourselves with rugby tours, fluoridated water, ad nauseum. The few honest, concerned, top people are now admitting there are no checks and balances on the executive government.. The Government caucus and . the Cabinet are only rubber stamps under our powerful party loyalty system. When will, the people of New Zealand wake- up arid demand, and get,, honest government representing their .wishes and aspirations? —- Yours, etc..-' .. ERIC-TATE. . . September 4;-. 1982. v J
