Ceremony for bomb victims

Sir,—M. Creel’s thought (August 16) is that we must banish war from human concerns. And, as picturing something in our minds helps to bring it about, this must involve deliberately entertaining ideas only of peace and an effort to understand. With thoughts of those who have suffered and sacrificed in the past (servicemen and civilians, and all countries), and, moving towards a tolerable present and a hopeful “drift” for the. future, may I suggest that those in a position to organise such things, might consider the idea of a national declaration of the first Saturday of spring (symbol of hope and new life), as an adjunct to Anzac Day. It should be given over to a celebration and assumption of peace for the world, with large picnics, displays and- demonstrations of positive, joyful, considerate, peace-promoting activities. The greatest wish of those who died would be for us to visualise and promote the peace they hoped to see.— Yours, etc.,

N. W. MILANOVICH. August 18, 1982.
