Record entry in Port Hills Relay
A record 95 teams of five runners have entered the annual United Harrier Club Port Hills Relays on Saturday.
The Toe H No. 1 team, which took fastest time last year, looks set to repeat that effort, in spite of three team changes.
The newcomers are Peter Williams, Grant. Hardy and Taylor •Allison, who will join Frank Brookes' and Sam McLean. Its time last year was two hours 32 seconds.
The handicappers -have placed Toe- H 1 off the back mark of 78 minutes behind “go,” while Christchurch A, headed by Bruce Rattray and Gavin Donaldson, is off 75min.
The reputation that University women have estab-
lished may. be the downfall of the University women’s A team (S. McEwen, P. Taylor, C. Connor, J. Merifield, M. Warne). The team has to give a strong Christchurch women’s A team a fourminute start, but Christchurch may even take fastest time with J. Barnes, A. Vermeulen, K. Ward, and A. Kennedy.
The back marker in the veteran men’s team race is Christchurch veteran A (A. Buckley, I. Brownie, R, Perry, W. Baker, V. Sykes). No club has had a monopoly of victory in the handicap section of the open relay. In the last three years the teams first across the line have been Technical 2, Invercargill Harriers and North Canterbury 2.
