Third women’s squash test

Yet another clash between Susan Devoy (New Zealand) and Tracy Smith (Australia) should highlight the third junior women’s. squash test at the Christchurch club courts this evening.

The result of this match will be the main item of interest as Australia has already clinched the three-test series, winning 4-0, at North Shore last week and 3-1, at Palmerston North on Monday.

Miss Devoy has had two close contests with the 18-year-old Miss Smith, the Victorian and Australian junior champion, and the score stands at 1-1. The Hamilton girl lost the first match in four games, but won the second in a real cliff-hangar, 10-9 in the fifth.

The Australians, all aged 18, give the ball a big wallop and should be good crowd-

pleasers. No playing .order has yet been established but the other contests will be Wendy Williams (Victoria) v Julie Keen (Hamilton), Robyn Friday (Perth) v Stephanie Young (Eden-Epsom), Robyn Belford (N.S.W.) v Susan Wasley (Burnside). Miss Wasley, will be aiming for double figures this time after fairly small rewards in the first two tests agains Miss Belford, the New South Wales junior champion and No 3 in the open rankings. Tomorrow . Miss Wasley will be among the Canterbury boys, and girls, teams which leave for Dunedin and competition in the New Zealand junior open and interdistrict event until August 28.

Both Canterbury teams are seeded fourth.
