N. Canterbury gains Munroe Shield
In a representative colts game Ellesmere lost the Munroe Shield when it was beaten, 12-11. by North Canterbury in a solid forward.game, also marked by the hard tackling of both sets of backs, at Southbridge. North Canterbury won dramatically in the final minute with a try to its first five-eighths. M. Brown. Brown picked up the ball when it came loose from the Ellesmere scrum, scored wide out. and then converted his own try. The. Ellesmere forewards drove well from scrums and lineouts with Andrew Lambie. Paul Johnson, and John Jepson standing out. John Mounce and Alan Palmer, the Bankers, chased hard. Among the backs there were useful performances from Graham Saunders, the first fiveeighths, Tim Ridgen. and the hard-running wing. Greg Ward For North Canterbury C
Stephens and ■ Prattley played good games in the tight and M. Cole covered a lot of ground in the loose. In the backs, the fullback. G. Gowens, .the centre, McGregor, and Brown showed up. Scores:— North Canterbury 12 (M. Brown two tries and two conversions) beat Ellesmere 11 ■ (G. Ward two tries: M. Chamberlain a penalty goal).
