Middlesex still in control
The latest round of matches did nothing to shake Middlesex's grip on the county cricket championship in England. It drew its match with Essex but its nearest rivals when the round began. Sussex and Derbvshire. were without matches and the title-holder. Nottinghamshire. suffered its third consecutive defeat, in a thrilling match against Yorkshire.
