Avon fish

Sir,—When I was a "boy much of mv leisure time was spent fishing along the banks of the River Avon. Over the last few years the trout population has dwindled almost to the point of extinction and the river has become clogged up with unsightly weed. A solution to this problem would be to restock the river with weedeating carp and the river could be declared a fishing sanctuary for the children of Christchurch. Once the fish became established, costly weed cleaning operations would be unnecessary and boats could once ■again use the river unobstructed. When fully grown these fish are more than one metre in length, and catching these monsters would create a thrilling pastime for the young—Yours, etc., ROGER BYNION. July 13, 1982..
