Squash loss to Hayes
. Craig Blackwood (Panmure) spent nearly two hours on the court yeste’rday before finally qualifying for the men's final in the Adidas-Spalding North Island squash championships at Khandallah. Wellington, today. Blackwood, the second seed, had a titanic struggle against the third-seeded Rod Hayes, of Christchurch, before finally winning. 4-9. 10-8. 0-9, 10-8, 9-6. The Canterbury man. who held match ball in the fourth game, twice lost a lens from his glasses
during the final game. By contrast, the top seed. Neven Barbour, breezed through his semi-final against Tawa's Mark Smith, winning. 9-3, 9-2, 9As expected, the women’s finalists todav will be Robyn Blackwood (North Shore) and Susan Devoy (Hamilton) who had very comfortable wins in the semi-finals. Miss Blackwood beat Joanne Milne (Sumner). 9-0, 9-1, 9-6, arid Miss Devoy beat Donna Gurran (Remuera), 9-5. 9-2. 9-0.
