N.Z. girl wins marathon
NZPA Perth Pip Brunker. 21-vear-old NewZealander. was the star of the Perth Peoples Marathon yesterday. The marathon has 'developed a reputation for uncovering talented newcomers. Not only was she the first woman home yesterday among the 600 competitors, but her time of 2h 52ms 44s was well inside the previous course record of 3h
9m 3s established last year byJulie Mullins. It was also a state women's marathon record and nine minutes inside Miss Brunker's pervious best time over 42.2 km. Her overall twenty-ninth placing was also the highest by a female runner since the event’s inception in 1979. The winner of the marathon was Peter Taylor in the time of 2h 29m 10s
