Air New Zealand
Sir,—lt is now a deflated Mr Bob Owens who as the private enterprise chairman of Air New Zealand is experiencing the might of the Public Service resistance in his endeavour to prune the bureaucratic monster created by the merger of N.A.C. and Air New Zealand. With over 200 surplus pilots who on the old salary scale will require a lump sum of over $300,000 each for premature retirement, and on top of this in excess of 2000 other staff redundant, the real fraud of the airline is being concealed and not revealed. Air New Zealand is a national
scandal and a National Party blunder and our domestic services should be handed over to the real private enterprise operators. Mount Cook, which would require only one third of the staff—Yours, etc., L. J. STEVENS. June 1. 1982.
