Basketball tournament
The annual “matai" South Island invitation basketball tournament will be hosted in Christchurch this week-end by the Christchurch Deaf Basketball Club at Cowles Stadium.
Hundreds of dollars in prizes have been donated by Christchurch businesses as player and team prizes for the tournament, the first large-scale tournament organised by the Deaf Club.
The tournament nas attracted 24. teams — from Christchurch, Oamaru. Westport, Timaru. Grey'mouth and Waimate. It begins on Saturday afternoon after the league match between Canterbury and Hamilton.
The semi-finals and finals will be played on Mondayafter each team has played three section games.
