Thieves spoil triumph
NZPA-Reuter Hamburg
Thieves spoiled the evening for the wives of Hamburg's soccer team on Sunday night as they celebrated their husbands' triumph in the West German championship. The club had bought a diamond bracelet for each wife to thank them for their support and patience, but when the Hamburg president. Manfred Klein, rose to propose a toast to the team's most loyal supporters, he had to start with an apology — the bracelets had been stolen during the team’s triumphant open-top bus ride through the city.
