Sir,—Regarding the letter from your correspondent Hugh Gaw (March 26) on the rights of “gay” people: It has been proved that people are not born “gay,” alcoholics, criminals, mentally unstable, etc. Maybe their childhood relationships set the pattern for their reaction to the way they are treated as they grow older. I quote Martin Luther King: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” My re-
ligious upbringing tried to teach me that we are all “miserable sinners”. If this were so, should we not draw the blinds in our own glasshouses before we throw stones at others? May many more people break through the intolerance towards others who are different from themselves and sincerely say “There, but for (by?) the grace of God, go I” — Yours, etc., MARGARET MANNING.
