Rugby Park
Sir.—l read ("The Press," February 11) that the Rugby
Union is optimistic that rebuilding permission will soon be given by the Christchurch City Council for the stand destroyed by fire last year. It is not my intention to discuss comments such as temporary toilets, temporary showers and not completely rebuilding the stand. These’ things are a separate worry. I want the people in St Albans to stop and think of this golden opportunity to create a "complex” that will benefit all the people. This central area has changed so much, in character and population, since the Rugby Union was given permission, so many many years ago. to fence it off for the weekly game of rugby. This lovely residential area has grown up and deserves something better. Perhaps the City Council could plan a “complex” for all the people, the young, the old and the .children, to enjoy. Perhaps rugby and could get a ground a little further out of town? — Yours, etc., BILL NEWBURGH. February 12, 1982.
