N.Z. films
Sir,—l went to the. film “Smash Palace” to see what New Zealand can produce. I was disappointed. The story was reasonable until about halfway and then deteriorated to an anti-climax at the end. Do not the New Zealand police object to the image of a constable using a police vehicle to visit his girl-friend -at any time? How the censor can consider the film suitable for 16-year-olds is beyond me. The stand-up fight between Al and his wife miserably said it all, and it was quite unnecessary for Al to rape his wife, let alone showing the intercourse in full length naked technicolour. The audience’s gasp.in the theatre was presumably amazement at the Portrayal. Is the character Al Shaw a typical New Zealand male? Surely we can find a better image to present, to the world. — Yours, etc ’■ L. J. OXLEY. February 12. 1982.
