Poor dress-rehearsal for cricket series

The Rest had lost another four wickets for 70 by the close. The opening bowlers. Marlin Snedden and Gary Troup. ..did the damage for the NewZealand side, only three of The Rest's batsmen making it to double figures.

1 Snedden finished with four wickets for 15 off eight overs, while Troup took three for 23. John Bracewell's undefeated 19 was the highest score in The Rest's innings. The alternative national side lost its first wicket al 12 when Franklin hit his wicket on a ball from Snedden and the rot continued, with half the side out for only 23 runs. The best stand of the innings was for the last wicket, with Bracewell and Carrington putting on 19 before the latter was bowled by Ewen Chatfield. It was not much of a dress-rehearsal for New Zea-

land’s coming clashes with the Australians, for, as well as Snedden and Troup bowled. The Rest's batting was feeble. The bat was almost totally dominated by the. ball yesterday. with 20 wickets falling for 230 runs. The wicket was not to blame — the batsmen just failed to come to grips with its pace and the ability of the bowlers to extract lift and movement off the seam. The Rest looked better in the second innings, with Ormiston staying for 17 before being out leg before by Lance Cairns, and Gray holding the fort with an un-
