Sir,—For some years before World War I, I taught at the Elmwood School. In 1913. there was a large marquee housing the third standard. In winter, the ink froze in the wells and in summer, all winds blew through it. Standard 3 certainly numbered above 60 children then. In 1914, I helped that splendid lady, Miss Florence Durose, with her Standard 2, which numbered above 70. Never did I notice her cheerfulness fail for she was completely devoted to the welfare of her children. She was utterly dedicated to her task. The children loved her. How often have I known her to give further help to those children who needed it and this after school hours. Utterly unselfish, she was a lovely person. Many, 1 know, who attend the school centenary in April will recall her with sincere affection. She was a shining example of complete dedication and devotion.—Yours, etc., H. S. BA VERSTOCK. February 4, 1982.
