Netball space in park
Sir,—Here we go again: more attempts to pinch parts of Hagley Park. The latest is the intention to cut trees down and fill in a creek in order to expand the already-large area of seal for netball courts. The acid fact is that with increasing population and pollution the green areas of Christchurch should be expanding, not shrinking. A law giving absolute protection is long overdue. I do not go into Hagley Park to study architecture or to watch beefy birds prancing about on concrete; but to enjoy a green, quiet oasis in the city. Let people of a like mind join together to keep it that way for us and following generations. — Yours, etc.. E. A. STEVENS. February 3, 1982.
