New Zealanders take to fruit juices
New Zealanders are ’banking up to 20 per cfent ■more fruit juice each year. &ays the Department of Trade and Industry. A fast-growing horticultural industry and increasing ■public preference for foods” were used to •jback up the department's 'estimate that people will Jirink more fruit juice this Summer than before. | The end of free milk in Schools, and broader consumer tastes had also played
a part in lifting New Zealand's traditionally low juice consumption compared with other countries. New processing methods have also been developed to cut costs. Apple juice was deionised to remove its taste and colour, leaving a base which could be mixed with other pure fruit juices. The process gave fruit juice a longer shelf life and cartons could be used instead of more expensive cans.
