F.M. notices lodged
Radio Avon and the “Timaru Herald" and “Ashburton Guardian" newspapers have lodged notices of intent to apply for F.M. commercial broadcasting licences.
The notices are among 17 which have been received so far by the Broadcasting Tribunal in Wellington. Notices have come from around New Zealand, including Hawke's Bay, Southland. Waikato, and Wellington. The closing date for lodging notices of intent is tomorrow. The tribunal will then establish an order for hearings and will call for applications progressively.
The tribunal was asked to call for notices of intent from outside Auckland after the tribunal had reported to the Minister of Broadcasting. Mr Cooper. Applications for two commercial radio licences in Auckland have already been called and five organisations are vying for them, hearings on the applications are set down to begin on April 19.
