Extradition to Aust?
Greymouth reporter A warrant for the arrest of Sir Thomas Graham Fry. aged 29. a boat-builder’s labourer, on a charge related to the taking of the yacht Juanita from Sydney, has been issued in Australia. Senior-Sergeant C. J. Thomson told the District Court at Greymouth yesterday. He also told the Judge that the Australian authorities were considering extradition proceedings. Fry, represented by Mr P. A. Wetherall, pleaded guilty
to a charge of breaching the terms of probation by failing to report to the Probation Service after serving a term of three years imprisonment at Auckland for arson and of driving while disqualified. On the charge of the breach of probation, Mr Wetherall said that the defendant would remain in Greymouth because he claimed that he had an interest in the yacht, was considering taking legal action, and would seek bail. Senior-Sergeant Thomson said that he had been in-
formed earlier in the morning by Interpol that a warrant for Fry’s arrest for the theft of the’Juanita had been issued in Australia. Mr Wetherall said he had not been aware of this development. Fry was remanded in custody to February 3 for sentence on the charge of breach of probation and the hearing of a charge of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle in Auckland. The owner of the yacht, Mr Tony Huxley, watched the proceedings from the public gallery.
