Animals for Christmas
Sir,—At this time of year many children will be asking for a kitten or puppy for Christmas. I would beg parents to think deeply before granting this request. Animals are not toys to be discarded when the novelty wears off. They require a lot of attention, and loving care, and, where dogs are concerned, lots of exercise no matter what the weather. In return an animal will give undying devotion, which is more than can be said for some of the selfish owners judging by the number of dogs and cats already abandoned. I think the new dog shelter should have been built to house irresponsible owners, not the poor dogs. — Yours, etc.,
M. HOCKLEY. December 17, 1981.
