Gasworks tree
Sir,—For five years now I
have watched the growth of a tree in the brickwork of the gasworks. Very soon now it will be thrown down from its lofty perch — left to be crushed amidst the brick and rusted iron debris. Yearly has it sprouted green in that most hostile environment. The grip on life' by this tenacious tree has filled me with awe. It deserves better than this ignoble end. I salute the passing of an old friend. — Yours, etc.,
STEVE K. MORRIS. December 16. 1981.
