Poland
Sir,—One reads with considerable astonishment the criticisms by two trade union leaders, Mr A. J. Neary and Mr George Finlayson, of the actions of the Polish Government against Solidarity, reported in “The Press,” December 18. Solidarity has pursued policies and called for actions calculated to bring Poland to political, economic and social chaos. One wonders if these two trade union officials support Solidarity’s demands? It can be asserted with utter confidence that they would never support their adoption in New Zealand by the F.O.L. For instance, the right to hire and fire the management of New Zealand's industrial enterprises, and the right to share with the Government the determining of New Zealand’s economic policies. And would the F.O.L. be al- •; lowed the latitude exercised by Solidarity over the last sixteen months? A state of emergency , was declared in. New Zealand • in 1951 merely because the watersiders refused to work overtime. — Yours, etc., M. CREEL. December 18, 1981.
