Two Soviet seamen dead
Nelson reporter
Two dead seamen from Russian joint-venture fishing vessels were brought to Nelson on Saturday.
Their names have not been released by the police but their ages are said to be 58 and 40.
The one aged 58 is said to have died in his sleep, but it is not. known how the other one died.
The younger man was brought to Nelson aboard SRTM 8455, and the other man by the Zemchuzhny. The Nelson police said that since both deaths had been reported to have occurred outside New Zealand territorial waters, no inquiries into the deaths would be made by the police.
Post mortem examinations would not be made by New Zealand authorities but it was possible that the Russian Embassy would ask for private post mortem examinations.
