‘Rather unusual’ offence
PA Tauranga A Mount Maunganui woman ran naked into the street and drove away in a car after being surprised in bed with another man by a former boyfriend, the District Court at 'Tauranga was told. She drove to a friends house where she dressed and then drove the car to a police station. Minutes earlier, the car had been reported stolen. The woman, whose name was suppressed, admitted unlawfully taking x the vehicle, and was convicted
and ordered to come up for sentence within four months if called upon. Her counsel, Mr R. H. Blackwood, described the offence as rather unusual. He said that the woman went home and to bed with a friend with whom she had been drinking for several hours. A former boyfriend suddenly burst into the bedroom and assaulted the other man. “The woman tried to dress, but there was no time as the boyfriend also started to assault her,” Mr Blackwood said. She had taken the car under extreme provocation.
