St Albans beat Sydenham
St Albans and Riccarton were the successful teams in the senior women’s cricket competition on Saturday. In the one-day round. St Alban's beat Sydenham and Riccarton beat Lancaster Park. St Albans batted first against Sydenham and was out for 163. Ann McKenna top-scored, with 60 for St Albans, but Sydenham never looked capable of reaching the target. Nicki Turner batted determinedly for 46 but she did not receive any support from the middle-order and the side was out for 84. Karen Hadlee and Liz Wilson each took three wickets. ’ Tight bowling by Riccarton enabled it to keep the Lancaster Park total to a mediocre 125. -Shirley Cowles (47),. a temporary replacement for an injured Jenny Olson, and Debbie Hockley (22) were the only two to show resistance to the Riccarton attack. Park bowled tightly early in the Riccarton innings and took an early wicket but sloppy fielding, including several dropped
catches, cost it any chance of beating Riccarton. Sue Rattray, who was dropped before she scored, eventually made 52. and Leslie Murdoch, who also survived chances, reached 50. Results: Senior St Albans 163 (A. McKenna 60. K, Hadlee 26. K. Gilray 21) beat Sydenham 84 (N. Turner 46; Hadlee 3/26. Wilson 3/17. B. Legge 2/20). Riccarton 126'5 (L. Murdoch 50. S. Rattray 52; S. Moore 2/20) beat Lancaster Park 125/9 (D. Hockley 22, S. Cowles 47; Rattray 4/16, D. Avery 2/28). Senior B Bumside-West University beat Sydenham by default. Second grade Burnside-West 137/7 (A. Gormack 47, L. Clark 23, G. Hartshorne 22; M. French 2/38) beat Lancaster Park 133 (French 21, M. Ward 29. U. Bowden 30 not out; R. McKenzie 2/18. L. Clark 2/15, C. Keenan 4/22).
