Eyre County valuations up

The net land value for properties in Eyre County has risen 112 per cent in the last five years, from $43,162,000 to $91,474,000. Net capital values and the net value of improvements in the county have also risen dramatically, the latest valuation figures show. In October, 1976, the net capital value in the county was $75,040,000, compared with the new valuation in

October this year of $160,529,000. This is a rise of 114 per cent. The net value of improvements has risen in the same time from $31,878,000 to $69,055,000, an increase in value of 116 per cent. The District Valuer (Mr A. R. Calderwood) said that Eyre County’s closeness to Christchurch had led to an increased demand for property in the county.

Since the last valuation there had been more use of the land in schemes such as intensive farming, as well as many new houses and big improvements, he said. The council had also continued a

steady improvement programme for county amenities.

The increase in values was in keeping with the national trend which over the last 18 months had seen a rapid increase in prices for all types of property, Mr Calderwood said.

All property-owners in the County would be posted notices showing the new values.
