Hororata club wants donations

Members of the Hororata Trotting Club, numbering slightly more than 400, will be approached in the next three weeks to indicate what financial support is available towards retaining the club’s race meeting on its own course. Members of the committee, at a meeting on Thursday, were told that the club faced a minimum expenditure of $30,000 for the installation of computerised betting and repairs to the horsestall area. It was decided to outline the club’s financial probleips to members and ask them to indicate what they were pre-

pared to give towards the costs. Replies will have to be received by the end of January and the situation will be reviewed at a meeting of the committee early in February. "The club cannot afford to borrow all the money required and continue to race on its own course,” said the secretary of the club (Mr Geoff Bradbury). “It will be over to members to decide whether the club shifts its operation to another course, but the committee has made no move towards a change. The response from members will decide the issue,” he said.
