Gift horse wins
PA London Master Andrew, a horse given to the Queen Mother by the Jockey Club as an eightieth, birthday present, gave Her Majesty her first winner of the season in a hurdle race at Warwick on Wednesday. Making up ground smoothly from the mid-divi-sion, Bill Smith jumped the 7-2 joint favourite Master Andrew into the lead at the second last flight. “It was jockey Ron Barry who recommended Master Andrew as a suitable horse for the Jockey Club to give to the Queen Mother," said the trainer, Fulke Walwyn. “Master Andrew came to us before her birthday, but he had a bit of leg trouble, so we roughed him off and he is still very rusty.”
