Clean sweep for Avon rowers
Avon club crews had a clean sweep in the annual handicap rowing eights race from the Estuary to Kerrs Reach on Saturday. The event was marred by a collision at the first bridge between the Canterbury women’s and Christchurch Boys’ High School’s teams which effectively put about five crews out of the race. The area was blocked for about five minutes. Avon’s novices took both line honours and were the winners on handicap, while the club prefniers revelled in the tailwind conditions to record the good time of 20min B.Bs for the 7km course. Results — Corrected times.— Avon novices, 24:38, 1; Avon premiers, 26:8.8, 2; Canterbury intermediate-light-weights, 29:32.8, 3; Avon intermediates, 29:52.5, 4; C.C. under-16, 29:57.5, 5; Union intermediates and C.C.under-
