Envoy’s home attacked
About 12 shots have been fired at the residence of the Soviet Ambassador to the United Nations, but he and his family were out at the time. A telephone caller told an American news agency that the Jewish Defence League was responsible but the organisation later denied being involved. The league’s international chairman, Rabbi Meir Kahane, said the shooting was no doubt the work of Jewish activists protesting against what he called increased repression of Soviet Jews. “We heartily applaud it,” he said. — New York.
