Cameron turns tide for Old Boys
X -Ross Cameron (High School Old Boys) took three wickets in eight balls to deny Riccarton a victory that had seemed assured when “The Press" twilight competition began at Hospital Corner last evening. Riccarton had been 91 for three chasing 100 to win before Cameron turned the tide for Old Boys. Cameron was duly awarded the Lion Breweries “player of the week" award. The top score of the initial round was put up by the Country team with Hamish Wright and James Shipley (both retiring with 36) making the major contributions to the fine total of 161. East-Shirley, the defending champion, made a good start to this season’s competition with its win over Suburban. Things were a little close for comfort before Craig Thiele came in at No. 8 and cover-drove three boundaries in a row. The women’s matches, played at Hagley Oval, were all very clear-cut, each of the three winners making in excess of 80 runs more than the opposition. Nicki Turner (Sydenham) won the women’s “player of the week” award with her fine double of 38 retired and four wickets for eight runs.
