THE SHOE PEOPLE FOR ALL PEOPLE
New school fire-safety project
PA Ashburton A new fire-safety project will be introduced in all New Zealand primary schools during the winter term next year. The Fire Service Commission and the Education Department have been developing the programme over the last two years and all material to be used has been tested by both teachers and children. The Assistant Fire Commander for the Fire Safety Division of the Fire Services Commission, Mr David Wilkinson, said the programme had been tested in a pilot scheme at Paraparaumu Primary School. Recently, the commission withdrew its support for a fire-safety programme instigated by the Insurance Council of New Zealand, called Burny Kiwi.
