No cricket surprises
There are no startling selections or omissions in a 24-man squad chosen as candidates for Canterbury’s Shell Series cricket team this summer. It would have been larger, had Richard Leggat. Rod Latham, David Boyle and David Farrant not been in the Canterbury squad for the national under-22 tournament. The Canterbury squad will start its training at Lancaster Park this evening, and thereafter will practise on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. The players named are: Cran Bull. Bryan Ritchie. Peter Rattray. Richard Hadlee. Garv Saunders (Old Boys); Glenn Bateman, John Mackie, David Stead, Steve McNally (Riccarton); Dave Dempsey, Roy Gearry, Wayne Wilson (Lancaster Park); Vaughan Brown. Paul McEwan (Old Collegians); Ray Jones, Craig Thiele (East-Shirley); Justin Boyle. Steve Bateman (Burn-side-West); John Larter. Andrew Nuttall (St Albans): Ash Hart (Sydenham); Bob Masefield. Alan Devlin (North Canterbury) and Harvey King (South Canterbury).
