Malvern man wins fullbore shooting title

The experienced Malvern shooter, Geoff Smith, a former South Island champion, won his first Canterbury fullbore rifle shooting championship at West Melton at the week-end. Smith, who has been competing for nearly 30 years, has been runner-up oh three previous occasions. Several shooters were ahead of Smith after four ranges on Saturday, but he was in top form yesterday, scoring possibles over 500 yards and 600 yards to- win the provincial belt by one point from a former titleholder, Sandy Marshall (Nelson), who also was in excellent touch yesterday.
