Taxation

Sir,—Alan Wilkinson’s letter (November 10) is rubbish. Any study of T.O.T. will confirm that it will replace all other kinds of tax, leaving far more money in the wage and salary earners’ pockets. Quite contrary to Mr Wilkinson’s belief, it is the present tax system that penalises lower and middle-income earners, and allows “privileged” sectors to pay little or no tax. Obviously he is poorly informed about T.O.T. Or is it that his Socialist beliefs will not allow him to recognise a tax system that is equitable and does not penalise productivity? I would say that the number of T.R.I.M. car stickers around proves that the average person recognises just how beneficial turnover tax, and T.R.I.M.’s campaign in general, will be. And T.R.I.M.’s confirmation that Values candidates have signed their “integrity pledges” shows that not all Values members share their leader’s views! — Yours, etc., M. J. STANLEY. November 10, 1981. Sir,—l cannot see why anyone would want to run down the Tax Reduction Integrity Movement’s campaign. It seems to me that they are only doing what most of us would like to do, but have not got the guts or the integrity to do ourselves. Everyone is complaining about the lack of results from party politics. Our unemployment, inflation, taxation and Government debt all are getting higher and higher in spite of all the fancy promises made by the political parties. Politicians are so sub-

merged in the party that they are losing touch with us out here, who have to pay all the taxes and bear the brunt of all their stupid schemes. I personally welcome this campaign. It is long overdue. I agree with the Turnover Tax. and I would like to see M.P.s represent their electorate, not be dictated to by party politics.— Yours, etc., JAMIE FRANCIS. November 10, 1981.
