Hagley High School

Sir,—l would suggest that while R. Mitchell (November 10) is apparently being constructive in his ideas, he has missed one very important factor. He says the school should continue as a community college, but without adolescent pupils, who could be easily accommodated at other high schools. This could be right in theory but Hagley gives a flexibility and a widely based

programming, for many who would not fit well into other schools — especially the very academic oriented schools. But academic standards too are high through the mix with highly motivated adult students. It would be a step backward for the school to close, or even to lose the adolescent students. In fact it seems strange that on the one hand there is a decision to open a bigger and better Girls’ High, while on the other, such a practical forward-looking school as Hagley should have its future in doubt.—Yours, etc G. V. ROWE. November 10, 1981.
