New start on Church unity
The Presbyterian General Assembly has decided to make a fresh start on unity with other Churches after the 1971 plan for union with five negotiating Churches was dropped. The 1971 plan for union was abolished by the assembly yesterday because of a lack of support. Almost 50 per cent of local presbyteries were known to be against the union. The Rev. D. M. Steedman, of St John’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, has been appointed Moderator-desig-nate by the assembly.
