Minister again sues broadcasting
PA Auckland The Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) has, filed a $lOO,OOO defamation action against the Broadcasting Corporation over a party political broadcast transmitted on behalf of the Labour Party. A writ seeking the damages was filed in the High Court at Wellington. The action is in addition to a writ filed in September claiming $600,000 against the corporation after an “EyeWitness” programme on television, and broadcasts on Radio New Zealand. Mr Birch’s action came after Radio New Zealand told the Labour Party that it would not allow a party political broadcast on the disclosing of private interests of members of Parliament to be repeated.
