Canty shrubs on show
The Canterbury Horticultural Society Hall will be a blaze of colour this week-end for New Zealand’s first official rhododendron show.
Canterbury growers will display more than 50 classes of flowering and non-flower-ing rhododendrons and azaleas grouped in species and colours.
One of the society’s organisers. Mr R. J. Coker, said that more people were starting to appreciate rhododendrons which grew particularly well in Christchurch.
“It is the first time in New Zealand there has been a judged rhododendron show," he said. Botanist judges would award prizes on Saturday.
The hall will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
