Headquarters nearly finished
The Leader of the Labour Party (Mr Rowling) yesterday smoothed the last pour of concrete at his party’s new six-storey $1.5 million headquarters in Wellington.
Construction of the building, to be named Fraser House, began in February. It should be ready for occupation in April, said the party’s general secretary, Mr J. A. Wybrow. The name honours the 1940-49 Labour Prime Minister, Mr Peter Fraser. The building will replace a cramped two-storey building, also in central Wellington, that the party has used for about 13 years. The land was bought by the Labour Party soon after Mr Fraser's death in 1951.
