Lake to be used again

Lake Forsyth proved such a successful venue for an international rowing regatta between New Zealand and Australian state crews earlier this month that it will be used again this season. The president of the Canterbury Rowing Association. Mr Pat McQuinn, said yesterday that the venue would probably be revived for the third pennant regatta, to be run by the Avon club over the week-end of December 19 to 20. One advantage of the

course, Mr McQuinn said, was that it measured the full international distance of 2000 m compared with the 1800 m of the usual course, Kerrs Reach. Lake Forsyth, near Little River, was the venue for the national championships back in 1907. However, the recent “test” between colts, women, and lightweights representing New Zealand and New South Wales was the first time a regatta had been held there since before World War 11.
